Lottermann & Fuentes
On the importance of emerging into other roles.
We make fantasies real and reality into fiction. We decided ten years ago to do this together, and we’ve kept doing it ever since. Our creative process always starts with a story. A fantasy that we try to materialize in the pictures we’re taking. In our self-portrait, the story is set at Astro Burger, our favourite diner in Los Angeles. There is something elusive about that place, and the ever-changing cast of characters it attracts. It sparks our imagination to think about all the stories that unite for a brief moment over those delicious burgers. We wanted to contribute to the curiosities by going there undercover, wearing our beloved wigs.

We keep coming back to wearing wigs as a way to change our outlook and emerge into other roles, like secret agents on a mission. And we bring that cinematic and adventurous aspect into our work, along with an essential element of confusion. Double trouble is the definition of how we run things on set. For example, we always shoot with two cameras; it tends to distract the people we are portraying from the fact that they’re being photographed and make the outcome more authentic and alive.
